Welcome to my blog! My name is Kesslan; I’m the owner and operator of Cinderella’s Mice, a crafts and costuming boutique specializing in cosplay and themed embroidery. I absolutely love what I do, and I know there are plenty of others out there who are interested in sewing but just don’t know where to start. That’s why I started this blog. As I design new costumes, I’ll share my processes; as I learn new techniques, I’ll clue you in on the tricks; as I discover new tools, I’ll review their usefulness. I’m constantly growing as a creator, and I hope you’ll join along with me to do the same!
I opened Cinderella’s Mice in September of 2014, but I’ve been working with needle and thread for years, designing and producing everything from movie costumes to homecoming dresses, from stuffed dolls to shoulder bags. I may not be the best (like no one ever was), but I’m proud of my experience, and I’m excited to see where Cinderella’s Mice can take me next.
Be sure to check back as I continue to put together my inventory over the next month or two. For now, I’m polishing off the designs for two costumes: Ice Queen Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, and Milkmaid Malon from Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I’m also working with a new embroidery machine–the Singer Futura Quintet–and should have several new embroidery hangings in the store soon.
My husband often says I get too “emotionally attached” to fictional characters, which to me is just a nice way of saying I tend to fangirl over the shows and games I really enjoy. So what if I cried at the end of Final Fantasy X? So what if I laughed a bit too hard at the jokes in Avatar: The Last Airbender? I’m not the only one!
In fact, that’s what I’m counting on! Many — not all, but many — of my designs will have elements themed after some of my favorite televisions shows, video games, books, and movies. But don’t worry if that’s not your thing! I’m just as excited to design skirts as I am capes, and I’d like to one day have a whole line of fun scarfs.
The sun is shining and I’ve got an adventure ahead of me! I’m so glad you can all be a part of it!
